The mission of the volunteers at CRIT is to compassionately assist and serve our families, by providing warm affection and quality care.
The volunteers are the intermediaries between the services offered at the center and our families. They are the organization’s spirit as they greet every person that comes to the center, either as a patient, relative or visitor, with good disposition and open arms. Volunteers provide moral support and company to the families.

The CRIT Buddy Program offers patients and their buddies the opportunity to participate in monthly outings in the San Antonio area to explore different activities and events available, regardless of abilities.
Buddies consist of volunteers from 8-30 years old who wish to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and teens with disabilities. Buddies and CRIT staff modify and adapt activities; based on the abilities of each child, with assistance from CRIT staff and other adult volunteers if needed.
The program matches Buddy volunteers with children currently receiving rehabilitation services at our center. The volunteers spend one-on-one time with a specific child or teen while doing fun activities at our facility or while on outings in the community, such as to parks, museums, and events.
The program has a dual purpose. Children with disabilities learn how to integrate socially within their communities and to become more independent. Buddies learn what it means to have a disability and that people with disabilities are essentially just like them. This knowledge transforms our Buddies into ambassadors for people with disabilities, thus helping society expand its boundaries to be more inclusive of people with special physical needs.
Young people can volunteer for the CRIT Buddy Program in two ways:
Stop by the Therapeutic Recreation office to pick up the paperwork, email Kelli Roberts at firstname.lastname@example.org for an electronic form or visit our website to sign up. Outings are typically on Saturdays, but can vary throughout the year.
